On September 14, an interview will be conducted with the Rudaw website (digital portal) to discuss the environmental impact of plastic waste and the challenges associated with its decomposition and management. The discussion will focus on the long-lasting effects of plastic pollution, highlighting how plastic materials persist in the environment for hundreds of years before breaking down, leading to serious consequences for ecosystems, wildlife, and human health.
During the interview, we will explore the sources and scale of plastic waste in Kurdistan, emphasizing how single-use plastics, such as bags, bottles, and packaging, contribute significantly to environmental degradation. We will also address the slow decomposition rate of plastic and how it breaks down into microplastics, which contaminate soil, rivers, and even drinking water sources.
This discussion aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12, which focuses on responsible consumption and waste disposal.
