The College of Science at Salahaddin University-Erbil is committed to providing high-quality education and research in fundamental and applied sciences. Our mission is to equip students with comprehensive scientific knowledge, critical thinking skills, and practical expertise to address real-world challenges. Through innovative teaching, research excellence, and collaboration with industries and academic institutions, we aim to contribute to the scientific, technological, and economic development of the Kurdistan Region and beyond.
Our History
The College of Science was established in 1968 in Sulaimani City as the first college of Sulaimani University. It initially offered undergraduate programs in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. In 1976, the Geology Department was added to expand academic offerings. In 1981, the college was relocated to Erbil City, and the university was renamed Salahaddin University-Erbil. Over the years, the college continued to develop, and in 2007, the Department of Environmental Science was established to address growing environmental challenges. Postgraduate programs began with M.Sc. degrees in Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics, followed by Physics in 1978 and Geology in 1986. The college introduced Ph.D. programs in Biology and Chemistry in 1992, later expanding to Geology in 1998 and Physics in 2002. Today, the College of Science is dedicated to delivering high-quality education and advancing scientific research. Its graduates contribute to various sectors, including healthcare, industry, education, and environmental sciences, playing a crucial role in the development of the Kurdistan Region.
